Summer Placement Programme at Boots

The Boots Pharmacy Placement is a great way to start your pharmacy career by gaining practical experience of community pharmacy and an insight into the role of a Boots’ pharmacist. Over your placement, there is a real feeling that you are part of the team. You will work alongside an experienced healthcare team providing great customer service and giving excellent healthcare advice. The Boots Pharmacy Placement Programme is the future pipeline of pharmacists into Boots. While putting into practice your University knowledge and learning new skills, you will be in an excellent place to make decisions about your future career. We look for enthusiastic people who want to play an effective part in our business, providing great customer service and patient care. You will need to be professional, and able to build relationships with customers. More than anything, you will be passionate about pharmacy, already interested in what we do and eager to work hard and learn more.

What should I expect?
In Boots, healthcare is at the heart of our business and, whether you are working in one of our larger businesses or a smaller local pharmacy, you will have the chance to understand community pharmacy first hand, and have lots of customer contact. Predominantly you will be working in the healthcare and pharmacy areas. To give you a full understanding of working in a retail pharmacy business you may work in other areas of the store from time to time. You will be able to draw on the knowledge and experience of the store team, have opportunities to meet other people from Boots and be able to share your experiences with other students. Throughout the placement you will have a workbook to complete. The programme is structured to help all students get the best out of their placement, whether you are new to working in a pharmacy or a returning student with previous experience. Your learning will be tailored depending on your strengths, development needs and areas of interest. During your placement, you will be supported by your professional mentor pharmacist and your line manager. They will regularly assess your performance during your placement and provide you with feedback so that you are given every opportunity to excel in your development. You will collect evidence of your achievements throughout the programme as you progress. It will also introduce you to the world of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

How do I apply?
Watch out for posters and updates on the Boots notice board giving details of a presentation by Lyn. This usually happens during the first semester but if there are any changes to this Lyn will let you know. Also, up to date information will be posted on our website and Lyn will circulate email updates. The presentation and website will give you details of the application process and closing date.
