School of Pharmacy, Queen's University Belfast

Career Options

Sorting out what you might do after graduation takes time. You need to start this process early, ideally in year one by
  • considering your options and planning ahead
  • gaining your work experience
  • building employability skills
  • developing career management skills

The School of Pharmacy supports you in numerous ways:
  • You will be advised about work experience opportunities during your undergraduate studies.
  • Information will be provided on the application process and opportunities for pre-registration (foundation) training across all sectors.
  • Information will be provided to raise awareness about the range of career paths that can be followed by MPharm graduates. This will include exhibitions and talks from employers and alumni.
  • Personal Development Planning (PDP) will be introduced to you during your first semester. This will encourage you to critically reflect upon your skills, achievements, strengths and weaknesses. This will help you set and achieve career goals from Level 1.
  • The careers notice boards are updated regularly with notices of part-time employment for undergraduates and information on pre-registration (foundation training) places across Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
  • Students are able to seek personalised guidance from the School of Pharmacy careers liaison academic, Johanne Barry.

The University Careers, Employability and Skills service is based in the Student Guidance Centre and provides the following support:
  • a full range of professional guidance services through a team of career advisors
  • a full programme of careers events
  • information on occupations, postgraduate study, employers, graduate vacancies and training opportunities
